EI rates going up? | 2sweetlife

Bees Buzzing

An increase to EI?

Saddens me to see what I interpret as another dip into the pockets of the working person.  And, instead of calling it a tax they give us spin but it has the same effect, less pay cheque goes home, more goes to the government.

It’s odd that a lot of people see EI as a social program paid for by the government when it couldn’t be further from the truth.  Employment Insurance (the old Unemployment Insurance) is paid for by the workers in the system and only available to those workers as a hedge against losing your income when you lose your job and a bridge until you find another one.  It’s administered, some would call it abused, by the government who’ve used the surplus in it to pay down the deficit, which is the government’s inability to balance its books!

Over the past decade or so we’ve seen eligibility reduced and premiums increased thereby putting in more surplus for the government to use as it sees fit.  Much like they do with taxes.  In my opinion, if there’s a surplus there cannot be an increase to premium because obviously there’s enough in the fund already.  Successive governments have taken the surplus paid for by workers  and businesses and used it to dodge and weave and most of us are sick of it.

Use it up; Wear it out; Make do; Do without!

Shape Up!

Today was a ho-hum sorta day.  Got through them, but that’s it.

I know that there are going to be days like this.  Lots and lots of them.  So?  I’ve just decided to accept that that’s what this is and get on with it.  You can’t be upbeat and Pollyanna ever minute – some days I call it a good day when all I’ve done is make it to the end without giving anything up.  Including my fitness plan.

But know what?  Even if I’d just said to hell with it, I’d call it one of my ‘off’ days and let that be the end of it.  Just can’t spend all of my time beating myself up.  If this was my best friend, I’d tell her to let this day be what it was.  An off day.  We’re all entitled to one now and again.

And, Miss QueenB – take a flying leap off a short pier, I saw you in the ice cream parlor yesterday…and I did exercises today.  So gonna come out of this the winner – and I’ll stay a winner because I’m not going to ever give up or in.
