caKe
Everyone’s favourite women’s night, caKe, is turning 2 on Friday and is celebrating it alongside the Dublin Lesbian Line with “Telephone caKe” . Through its unique blend of indie, electro, pop and alternative music, caKe never disappoints and this particular outing should be no different.
I caught up with one of the women behind caKe, Anna McCarthy, and asked her what was the main idea behind the night. She told me:
We wanted to start up something that could put funds back into the community. Especially in the hard economic times we feel that it’s so important for the community to be self-sustaining.
CaKe has become known for its themes, which have in the past included: Weather caKe, To bake or not to bake? caKe, Her Girl Friday caKe, caKe saLe, DollyMix caKe, Birthday caKe, Christmas caKe, Celebrating Tom Selleck caKe (where everyone got a moustache going in!), oven caKe, Rainbow Sprinkles caKe, and Wedding caKe. CaKe has also hosted the launch of the Pink Calendar and last month moved to Ballinlough Castle to let us all have some caKe with our MILK . Personally, I’m pushing for them to do a caKe-jumper caKe….You know you want them to!
The theme for this week is Telephone caKe and is helping to raise awareness of the Dublin Lesbian Line. However, unlike Lady Gaga who wants you to Stop calling! Stop calling! I don’t want to talk anymore, I left my head and my heart on the dance floor, the Dublin Lesbian Line do want your calls, so don’t forget to check out DLL’s website here: http://www.dublinlesbianline.ie/
CaKe is held on the 2nd Friday of every month in The Academy, Middle Abbey Street, Dublin 1.
Doors open at 10.30pm, and you should arrive early for your free shots and birthday cake.
Admission is €10, and €8 for students.

What makes the perfect CaKe? Take a dollop of pop, a pinch of electro, a hint of alternative, and a dab of retro, and leave to dance til late…
